Manipulating Elections

Posted: June 8, 2010

Letter to the Editor

The purpose of this letter is to urge political candidates to come forward with their experiences of being politically discriminated against, manipulated and harassed, and also to urge the voters to contact their respective political parties to tell them to stop the scoundrels, the “self-appointed guard dogs” from trying to protect their “personal political playground.”

With the Congressman Sestak and Speaker Romanoff political "get out of your Senate races" scandals making national news, reminded me of what occurred here locally during my campaign for the Republican nomination for the United States House of Representatives, District 15 of Ohio.

I announced my candidacy for Congress in September 2009, in an honest and sincere attempt at serving our nation.  Shortly thereafter, Mr. David Ryon, who had already announced as a Republican candidate, switched from the Republican party to the Constitution Party for the same elected office.

On October 28, 2009, Mr. Doug Priesse, Executive Director of the Franklin County Republican Party asked to meet with me concerning my candidacy.  During our meeting he pointed out that Mr. Steve Stivers, a Republican candidate for the same office, would prefer “to conserve his money and efforts” for the General Election in November 2010, and not be subjected to a primary campaign.  In their attempt to “clear the field,” I told Mr. Priesse that I would not drop out of the race.

According to Mr. Dave Ryon, Mr. Stivers met with him the next day on the 29th to discuss Mr. Ryon’s Constitution Party candidacy. This is particularly disturbing for a candidate of the Republican party to cross party lines and attempt to “clear the field” of a candidate in the Constitution Party.

As a point in fact, there were other potential candidates that took out petitions for the contested race who did not file.  Who, or what, stopped them from filing?

In my opinion, these White House manipulators and local self-appointed guard dogs who take these discriminatory actions are attempts to disenfranchise the voters and remove the voters from the nominating process.  It is un-American and goes against everything for which our free nation stands.  This un-American discriminatory activity must come to a stop at the national level and here at the local level.

These elected positions do not belong to self-appointed “guard dogs of their playground”.  Tell these scoundrels and their political parties to stop this attempted manipulation and discriminatory harassment of our American political process and potential political candidates.

Let the voters have their free choice.
